Employment Type: Full-time (Consultant/Specialist level)Job SummaryThe Specialist Urologist is responsible for the diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment, and long-term management of conditions affecting the urinary tract and male reproductive system.

This includes conditions of the kidneys, bladder, ureters, urethra, prostate, and testes. The role involves outpatient consultations, inpatient care, surgical procedures, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.Key ResponsibilitiesDiagnose and manage urological conditions such as kidney stones, urinary tract infections, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, and infertilityPerform urological surgeries, including endoscopic, laparoscopic, and open procedures (e.g., TURP, cystoscopy, ureteroscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy)Diagnose and treat urological cancers (bladder, prostate, kidney, testicular) and coordinate oncological treatment plans with oncology teamsConduct thorough patient assessments, including history-taking, physical examinations, and interpretation of imaging (ultrasound, CT, MRI) and lab resultsDevelop individualized treatment plans, balancing surgical and non-surgical interventionsProvide pre- and post-operative care, including patient counseling on procedures, risks, and recoveryMaintain accurate and timely medical records and documentation in compliance with hospital and regulatory standardsParticipate in on-call rotations for emergency urological cases (e.g., renal colic, urinary retention, trauma)Collaborate with nephrologists, oncologists, radiologists, and other specialists for integrated patient careSupervise and mentor junior doctors, residents, and medical students (in teaching hospitals)Stay current with advances in urology through continuing medical education (CME), conferences, and peer-reviewed literatureEnsure compliance with clinical governance, patient safety protocols, and infection control standardsParticipate in departmental audits, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities as applicableQualifications & RequirementsMBBS/MD (or equivalent medical degree)Postgraduate specialization in Urology (MS/MCh/DNB Urology, or equivalent board certification)Board certification in Urology (where applicable, e.g., FRCS Urol, ABU, etc.)Minimum [X] years of clinical experience as a practicing urologist (entry-level vs. senior roles vary)Proficiency in robotic/laparoscopic surgery is often preferred or requiredBLS/ACLS certification (institution-dependent)Skills & CompetenciesStrong surgical and diagnostic skillsExcellent clinical judgment and decision-making under pressureEffective communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teamsCompassionate, patient-centered approach to careAbility to manage a high patient caseload efficientlyStrong ethical standards and commitment to patient confidentialityProficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systemsWork EnvironmentHospital, clinic, or private practice settingMay require extended hours, weekend shifts, and emergency on-call dutiesExposure to surgical environments requiring adherence to sterile protocols
