About the JobRole DescriptionA Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary care teams in providing safe, compassionate, and efficient care to animals. The role involves preparing examination areas and equipment, assisting with animal handling and routine procedures under professional supervision, maintaining clean and hygienic clinical environments, supporting animal care activities, and assisting with administrative and operational tasks.The position is suitable for candidates with experience in veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, pet care, animal shelters, farms, or related animal-care environments. Previous experience working directly with animals is an advantage.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist veterinarians and veterinary staff with daily clinical and animal-care activities.Prepare examination rooms, treatment areas, cages, kennels, and equipment before appointments.Safely handle, restrain, and position animals under the direction of qualified veterinary professionals.Assist veterinarians during physical examinations and routine procedures.Prepare animals and equipment for diagnostic examinations and treatments.Monitor animals during examinations, procedures, recovery, and hospitalization.Observe animals for changes in behavior, appetite, activity, or general condition and report concerns to the veterinarian.Assist with administering medications and treatments only as directed by qualified veterinary professionals and within applicable scope of duties.Prepare prescribed medications and supplies under appropriate supervision.Assist with wound care, dressing changes, and basic animal-care procedures as instructed.Support veterinarians during vaccinations, sample collection, diagnostic procedures, and other routine clinical activities.Assist with preparing animals for surgery and maintaining appropriate surgical-area procedures when required.Prepare and organize surgical instruments, medical supplies, and equipment.Clean, disinfect, and sterilize equipment and clinical areas according to established procedures.Maintain appropriate hygiene and infection-control standards throughout the facility.Provide food, water, exercise, grooming support, and general care for hospitalized or boarding animals as required.Maintain clean cages, kennels, treatment areas, and animal housing facilities.Assist with monitoring animals during post-procedure recovery.Ensure animals are safely transferred between examination rooms, kennels, treatment areas, and other designated locations.Assist with receiving animals and recording basic patient information.Maintain accurate animal and treatment records as required.Update appointment, hospitalization, medication, and care documentation.Assist with managing veterinary supplies, medications, food, and other inventory.Monitor stock levels and report low, expired, damaged, or missing supplies to the supervisor.Prepare equipment and supplies for scheduled appointments and procedures.Assist with basic reception and appointment preparation activities when required.Communicate professionally with pet owners, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, suppliers, and other staff.Provide pet owners with basic non-clinical information and refer medical questions to qualified veterinary professionals.Handle animals and clients with patience, care, and professionalism.Follow animal welfare, workplace health, safety, hygiene, and infection-control procedures.Report animal injuries, emergencies, equipment problems, or other concerns promptly to the appropriate supervisor.Assist with emergency situations according to established veterinary clinic procedures.Maintain confidentiality of client and animal records.Follow applicable UAE veterinary, animal welfare, health, and safety requirements.Perform other veterinary support and animal-care duties as assigned.RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent qualification is preferred.Certificate, diploma, or training in Veterinary Assistance, Animal Care, Veterinary Technology, or a related field is an advantage.Previous experience in a veterinary clinic, animal hospital, pet-care facility, animal shelter, farm, or related environment is preferred.Basic understanding of animal handling and welfare practices.Comfortable working with animals of different sizes, breeds, and temperaments.Ability to safely handle and restrain animals under professional supervision.Strong understanding of basic hygiene, sanitation, and infection-control procedures.Caring, patient, and compassionate approach when working with animals.Good observation skills and ability to identify unusual animal behavior or physical changes.Ability to follow instructions from veterinarians and veterinary professionals accurately.Strong attention to detail and commitment to animal safety.Good communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to communicate professionally with pet owners and veterinary staff.Physically fit and able to stand, walk, lift, and handle animals when required.Ability to remain calm when dealing with nervous, injured, or difficult-to-handle animals.Good organizational and time-management skills.Basic computer skills and familiarity with veterinary practice management systems are an advantage.Ability to maintain accurate and confidential records.Ability to work effectively as part of a veterinary care team.Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays, and emergency shifts when required.Knowledge of UAE veterinary and animal welfare requirements is an advantage.Relevant
