Vice President Information Technology
Surack Enterprises · Greater Fort Wayne
Apply & track with Apply EdgeSurack Enterprises is a privately held family of more than 25 companies spanning music retail, real estate, aviation, hospitality, technology, and more. We are entrepreneurial, fast-moving, and deeply committed to the people who work here and the communities we serve. We are looking for a Vice President of Information Technology to own technology across the portfolio.RoleThis is a true player-coach role. You'll lead a tight-knit team covering IT operations, support and infrastructure, and software development, and you'll be close enough to the work to shape it directly. There’re no red tape and no layers of management standing between you and getting things done. Some weeks you'll be almost entirely strategic: planning, budgeting, advising business leaders. Other weeks you'll be hands-on, working through a firewall config or a tricky backup issue yourself. Both are part of what makes this role exciting. If you want a seat at the leadership table and the satisfaction of staying close to the work, this is the role for you. This is also a rare chance to build from the ground up. Each of our companies has grown its own way, which means there's a wide-open opportunity to bring technology together under one clear strategy. Standardizing the environment and building lasting process isn't a side project here. It's the main event, and you'll get to see your fingerprints on it across the entire portfolio. What You'll OwnEnterprise Technology StrategySet and execute a technology strategy that serves all Surack Enterprises companies.Serve as the technology advisor to ownership and senior leadership — in plain English.Find and act on the places where technology meaningfully improves operations, customer experience, and profitability.IT Infrastructure & OperationsOwn networking, servers, cloud, Microsoft 365 and Azure, telecom and connectivity, backup and disaster recovery, hardware lifecycle, and technology standards and policy.Move the team from firefighting to proactive: documentation, monitoring, ticket discipline, and repeatable playbooks.Cybersecurity & RiskOwn the security posture across every company — policy, governance, compliance, and risk.Protect company systems, customer information, and intellectual property.Make sure backups actually restore and the business can keep running when something breaks.Custom SoftwareMentor a solo developer — be the person they can think out loud with on architecture, code review, and career growth.Own delivery: scope, prioritize, and ship internal software projects with real timelines and stakeholder alignment.Reduce key-person risk. Get custom applications documented, in source control, and supportable by more than one person.AI & Emerging TechnologyLead the AI strategy: evaluate platforms, identify automation and productivity opportunities, and implement solutions across departments.Help each business find practical, real-world competitive advantage from AI — not pilots that go nowhere.Stay current in a field that changes monthly, and bring what matters back to the business.Technology Businesses & VendorsProvide executive oversight for AlwaysON Technology Solutions and Lakeland Internet — strategic alignment, operational excellence, financial performance, customer satisfaction, and growth.Build and manage vendor relationships, evaluate investments, negotiate contracts, and own the technology budget.LeadershipLead, coach, and develop a three-person team — and work alongside them.Set standards, hold people accountable, and build a technology organization the rest of the business trusts. The First 90 DaysWe would expect you to have:Completed a full inventory and assessment of technology across every company — what we have, what it costs, and where the risk is.Closed the highest-severity security gaps and validated that backup and recovery.Shifted the team from reactive to proactive: real ticket process, documentation, and monitoring in place.Put at least one practical AI or automation win into production.Built working relationships with the leaders of every company — they should know who you are and call you early, not last. What We're Looking ForRequired7+ years of progressive technology leadership, including real experience in a managed service provider (MSP) environment.Hands-on capability, today, in: Microsoft 365 and Azure administration (Entra ID, Intune, tenant management); networking, switching, routing, VPN, and firewalls; security posture and backup/disaster recovery.Enough software fluency to read code, review a database schema or architecture, and form an informed opinion.Demonstrated understanding of AI, automation, and emerging technology — and how to apply it practically. The ability to translate technical reality into business language for non-technical leaders. Why MSP Experience MattersIt is not a box to check. MSP people tend to have four things we specifically need:Context switching across many different environments in a single day — which is exactly what 25+ companies feels like.Range from ticket to boardroom: tier-3 troubleshooting in the morning, a conversation with an owner in the afternoon.Comfort doing more with less — small team, tight budget, no enterprise support structure to lean on.Standardization instincts: thinking in repeatable stacks, documentation, and playbooks rather than one-off fixes.PreferredExperience overseeing technology across multiple companies or business units.Experience managing an MSP or internet service business.Familiarity with ERP, CRM, and enterprise business applications.Experience integrating acquisitions onto common technology platforms. The Kind of Person Who Succeeds HereHumility is not a soft preference for this role. It is a requirement, and it is the thing most likely to determine whether you succeed here. The person who thrives at Surack Enterprises:Is never too big for the small stuff. Resets the password, images the laptop, drives to the site — because it needs doing, not because it's beneath them.Makes non-technical people feel smarter, not dumber. Never uses jargon as a weapon.Says "I don't know, let me find out" without flinching — and takes feedback and correction well.Solves the problem with what's in front of them first. Asks for headcount, budget, and title later, once they've earned it. We are not looking for someone building an empire. Why This RoleReal autonomy. You own technology for the entire portfolio, decisions get made fast, and there is no bureaucracy standing between you and doing the work.Genuine variety. More than 25 companies across wildly different industries — no two days look alike.Stability with an entrepreneurial culture. A privately held, growing, values-driven organization with people who stay a long time.If you are a hands-on technology leader who wants ownership, variety, and a seat at the table — and you are the kind of person who would rather fix it than delegate it — we would like to hear from you.
