Apply & track with Apply EdgeRole description VP – Engineering Reports to CTO / CEO Job Overview We are looking for an experienced and hands-on VP – Engineering to lead our engineering organization and build the technology foundation for the next phase of our growth. This is a senior leadership role responsible for translating the company's product and technology strategy into a scalable engineering organization, high-quality products, and reliable technology platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering and architecture, combined with experience leading large engineering teams and building AI/ML-powered enterprise products. The person should be equally comfortable discussing architecture and engineering decisions with technical teams and discussing product strategy, investments, priorities, and business outcomes with the executive leadership team. You will be responsible for engineering strategy, architecture, execution, people, quality, scalability, security, and operational excellence.Key responsibilities 1. Engineering Strategy & Technology Leadership Define and execute the engineering strategy aligned with the company's product and business objectives. Establish the technology roadmap and engineering priorities in partnership with Product, AI/ML, Architecture and business leadership. Build a scalable, secure, resilient and maintainable technology platform capable of supporting rapid business growth. Drive technology modernization, architecture evolution and reduction of technical debt. Establish engineering standards, development methodologies, coding practices and architectural principles. Evaluate emerging technologies and determine where they can create meaningful business or product advantage.2. AI / ML & Intelligent Products Lead engineering strategy for AI/ML-powered products and platforms. Work closely with Data Science, ML Engineering and Product teams to take AI capabilities from experimentation to production. Establish engineering practices around LLM/GenAI applications, model integration, evaluation, observability, MLOps and model lifecycle management. Build scalable infrastructure for model serving, inference, evaluation and continuous improvement. Ensure AI systems are production-ready, reliable, secure, explainable and measurable. Develop mechanisms to incorporate customer/HITL feedback into continuous product and model improvement.3. Engineering Organization & People Leadership Lead, develop and scale a high-performing engineering organization. Build a strong leadership layer comprising Engineering Directors, Engineering Managers, Architects and technical leaders. Define organizational structure, roles, responsibilities and career progression. Recruit, retain and develop high-caliber engineering talent. Establish a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, ownership and continuous improvement. Coach engineering leaders and create a strong succession pipeline. Establish effective performance-management and talent-development processes.4. Product & Engineering Execution Partner closely with Product leadership to translate product strategy into executable engineering roadmaps. Establish predictable and transparent engineering execution mechanisms. Balance speed of delivery with engineering quality, scalability, security and long-term maintainability. Ensure effective prioritization of new development, platform investments, technical debt and operational improvements. Establish meaningful engineering KPIs around delivery, quality, reliability, productivity and customer outcomes. Drive effective collaboration between Engineering, Product, Design, Data/AI, QA, DevOps and Customer Success.5. Architecture & Platform Provide executive-level oversight of application, platform, data and AI architecture. Ensure architecture decisions support scalability, performance, reliability and extensibility. Establish appropriate patterns around APIs, microservices, cloud infrastructure, event-driven systems and distributed architectures. Drive cloud strategy and infrastructure modernization where appropriate. Establish strong engineering practices around CI/CD, automated testing, observability and release management.6. Quality, Reliability & Security Establish engineering-wide standards for software quality and reliability. Drive automation across development, testing, deployment and operational processes. Establish appropriate SLOs, SLIs and engineering reliability metrics. Ensure robust production monitoring, incident management and rootcause analysis. Partner with Security and Compliance teams to establish secure-bydesign engineering practices. Ensure the platform meets applicable enterprise security, privacy and regulatory requirements.7. Business & Executive Leadership Act as a key technology partner to the CEO, CTO and executive leadership team. Translate technical opportunities and constraints into clear business decisions. Participate in product and commercial strategy discussions with customers and partners when required. Provide clear visibility into engineering investments, risks, dependencies, capacity and outcomes. Manage engineering budgets and technology investments effectively. Evaluate build-vs-buy-vs-partner decisions. Establish relationships with strategic technology partners and vendors.Education and Skills Must Have 18+ years of software/technology experience, with substantial experience leading engineering organizations. Proven experience as VP Engineering, SVP Engineering, Engineering Director, Head of Engineering, or equivalent. Experience managing and scaling large, distributed engineering organizations. Strong software engineering and architecture fundamentals. Experience building and operating enterprise-grade SaaS / software platforms. Strong understanding of modern cloud architecture and distributed systems. Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP. Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, observability, security and production operations. Demonstrated experience recruiting and developing engineering leaders. Strong product-engineering collaboration experience. Ability to operate strategically while remaining technically credible with engineering teams.Strongly Preferred Experience building AI/ML or GenAI-powered products. Experience with LLMs, RAG, AI agents, model evaluation or MLOps. Experience taking AI/ML capabilities from POC → production → scale. Experience with enterprise data platforms and/or Knowledge Graphs. Experience working with highly regulated industries such as insurance, financial services, healthcare or similar enterprise environments. Experience managing globally distributed teams.
