Vice President of Engineering

Job Title: VP of Engineering

Location: New York City, in office 4–5 days per week, with some flexibilityTeam: Initially lead four product engineers and help hire and develop the teamWorking style: Approximately 75% hands-on product, design, and engineering work; 25% managementCore stack: React, Node.js, AI/LLM systems, and agentic development toolsTiming: Urgent searchWe need a product-minded player-coach who can work with the CEO to decide what to build, personally ship high-quality features, and raise the performance of the engineering team.Must-have experience

• Recent hands-on, full-stack work building and shipping consumer or consumer-like products, including strong React and Node.js experience.
• Engineering leadership experience while continuing to build personally. Around 10+ years of relevant experience is preferred, but exceptional candidates with less may qualify.
• Strong product judgment and UX instincts, with the ability to move quickly from a user problem to a production release.
• Specific experience building AI-powered products and using AI or agentic tools in development. Experience with LLM evaluations, experimentation, or improving model output is valuable.
• The ability to motivate engineers, hire and coach effectively, make difficult personnel decisions, and maintain a high bar for quality.
• Comfort balancing speed with reliability, security, privacy, and sound engineering practices.Experience in health, fitness, wellness, behavior change, insurance-covered care, or consumer fintech is a plus. Founder, founding engineer, or early startup leadership experience is also highly relevant.
