WTP Operator

JOB PURPOSE:To operate, monitor, and maintain sludge handling systems, including dewatering, thickening, and disposal processes, ensuring efficient sludge treatment and compliance with ACWA NOMAC’s operational policies, quality standards, and HSE procedures.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: DescriptionSludge Handling & OperationsReceive and monitor sludge streams from plant processes to ensure proper treatment and disposal.Operate sludge thickening, dewatering, and drying equipment according to plant procedures.Record operational data and prepare reports on sludge treatment efficiency and disposal in line with regulatory requirements.Ensure sludge disposal complies with local environmental and waste management regulations.Plant Operations SupportMonitor sludge quality parameters and adjust operational settings to optimize treatment efficiency.Provide assistance to the Operations team in managing sludge-related issues affecting plant performance.Support internal/external Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental audits, implementing corrective actions as required.Ensure chemical dosing for sludge treatment is aligned with plant requirements.Equipment & MaintenanceConfirm periodic calibration and maintenance of sludge handling equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.Report operational problems and recommend corrective measures to the Chief Operator.Maintain adequate stock of consumables (chemicals, spare parts, PPE, etc.) for sludge treatment operations.Assist in training new sludge operators and supervisors.Continuous ImprovementContribute to improvement initiatives in sludge handling processes to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact.Policies, Processes, Systems & ProceduresAdhere to all organizational and departmental policies, SOPs, and instructions to ensure consistent and safe operations.Maintain awareness of local environmental and waste management procedures.Work in shifts as per plant operational regime.Health, Safety, Security & EnvironmentFollow all HSE procedures to ensure employee safety and environmental compliance.Related AssignmentsPerform any other duties assigned by the line manager.Minimum Qualifications:Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field.Minimum Experience:3–5 years’ experience in sludge handling or wastewater treatment operations, preferably in power or desalination plants.Key Skills:Time ManagementData Collection and AnalysisPlanning and OrganizingCommunicationOperations Systems KnowledgeUnderstanding of sludge treatment processes and environmental complianceCertified Environmental and Safety QualificationKnowledge of environmental and health impacts of sludge and related chemicals
