API Developer

One Dubai-based, on-site contract seat with our external partner: a Dubai IT services company whose work is APIs and integration. You will build and maintain the REST APIs and backend services behind its integrations: third-party systems in, clean documented endpoints out, secured, monitored and fast.ABOUT THE CLIENTOur partner is a Dubai-based IT services and integration company. Its engineers design, build and integrate backend services for enterprise clients in the UAE: connecting third-party platforms and external systems, exposing services to web and mobile front ends, and working on enterprise integrations and mapping and location-based APIs. This seat is a backend developer inside that team, working alongside its frontend developers, product people and client stakeholders. We share the client's name with shortlisted candidates.ABOUT THE ROLEDreamcast Interactive is a Dubai-headquartered studio building AI systems, web and mobile products, immersive AR/VR and full-cycle games for clients across the US, UK and GCC. We are placing an API Developer with the client above on a [12-month] full-time contract, engaged through Dreamcast and based on-site in Dubai. This is client work, not an internal role.You own your endpoints from design to production: the contract, the code, the tests, the documentation and the monitoring. You will be asked to explain your design choices to people who are not backend developers, and to fix things in production when they break.WHAT YOU WILL DO- Design, develop, test and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services- Integrate third-party APIs and external systems- Work with frontend developers, product teams and stakeholders to turn business requirements into endpoints and data flows- Write clean, scalable, efficient code that follows the team's standards- Troubleshoot and resolve API performance and integration issues- Build security, authentication and data-protection standards into everything you ship- Create and maintain technical documentation for APIs and integrations- Take part in code reviews and contribute to system improvements- Monitor application performance and optimise APIs for speed and scaleWHAT YOU BRING- 2 to 3 years in API or backend development- Strong knowledge of REST APIs and web services- Hands-on experience with one or more of Node.js, Java with Spring Boot, Python or .NET- JSON and XML, and API testing and documentation tools such as Postman or Swagger- MySQL, PostgreSQL or MongoDB- OAuth, JWT and API security practices, understood and applied in real code- Git and everyday version-control habits- Good analytical and troubleshooting skills- Clear communication and teamwork, in English- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related fieldNICE TO HAVE- Google Cloud Platform, AWS or Microsoft Azure- Microservices and Docker- CI/CD pipelines- Enterprise integrations, or mapping and location-based APIs- Agile or Scrum basicsCONTRACT- 5 month full-time contract through Dreamcast Interactive, starting as soon as possible, with extension based on performance and requirement- On-site in Dubai- Open only to candidates already based in the UAE who do not need visa sponsorship- Competitive monthly rate, benchmarked to the profilePrefer email? hello@dreamcastinteractive.com with the subject "API Developer – Your Name".
