Director - Rolling Mill

About the roleOur client, a leading integrated steel manufacturer in the UAE, is seeking a Director to lead its Rolling Mill 5 operation. You will own production, maintenance and material handling end-to-end, ensure smooth plant operation, and make sure the mill has the talent, processes and technology to deliver its business plan.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategyDevelop, secure approval for and implement the annual operating plan, policies and procedures for the rolling millBuild long-term strategic plans to improve operational efficiency and productivity, aligned with company objectivesDrive innovation by integrating new technologies and processes that improve mill performance and product qualityAdvise all levels of the business on rolling mill mattersLeadership & OrganisationLead production, maintenance and support teams – set objectives, manage performance, coach and develop staffDefine the optimum organisation structure for the millRecruit, train, appraise and develop plant employees and supervisorsOperationsDirect resource planning and allocation; oversee processes, controls and work instructions across the millPersonally resolve critical technical and production issues to minimise downtimeLead technical development of plant equipment and processesMaintain a robust quality management system and product quality control, including nuclear-grade quality assurance (NQA) complianceCoordinate with suppliers, contractors and external agenciesMaintenanceImplement a systematic maintenance approach that maximises plant availabilityEstablish systems capturing maintenance cost per equipment to drive predictive and preventive maintenanceBudget & Capital PlanningPrepare and manage annual operating budgets; identify cost-reduction and efficiency opportunitiesRecommend the mill's capital expenditure plan and lead ongoing asset condition and compliance reviewsHSEChampion a strong safety culture and ensure EHS compliance across employees and contractorsRequirementsUniversity degree in Engineering10–15 years in manufacturing and management within the steel industryMinimum 5 years in a senior managerial position in steel manufacturingMinimum 5 years in rolling mills (long products)Proven track record of journal publications or patents in a technological fieldFluent English; Arabic preferred
