Lead Engineer – AI Agent Systems
The Land Administration Company Inc · County Dublin, Ireland
Tailor my CV for this job — freeWhen that information is inaccurate, incomplete or unavailable, the consequences are serious: disputed titles, stalled transactions, lost public revenue and eroded trust in government. The Land Administration Company Inc. (LAC), based in Vancouver, exists to prevent those failures. It provides mission-critical software and specialist services that help governments and large institutions modernise and safeguard the systems they use to manage land, titles, parcels and regulatory processes. At the heart of LAC's offering is LAVA, its proprietary cloud-native platform. LAVA serves as the authoritative system of record for land governance, bringing together land titles, cadastral and spatial data, legal instruments, regulatory compliance and operational workflows in one secure, highly reliable environment. It supports the full scope of land registry and cadastral operations, including first registration and digital survey plan submission. For clients, this means better data quality, faster approvals, lower administrative risk, real-time decision-making and complete visibility and control over their land information. LACI is the research, development and global AI engineering hub for all future LAC products. Based in Dublin, we work closely with academic and state level research teams to advance our mission. About us LACI is building new products that put applied AI at their core. We’re a small, senior team that values deep technical ownership, rigorous engineering, and building things that work reliably in the real world. We’ll share more about what we’re building during the interview process. The role We’re looking for a Lead Engineer to lead the squad building the agentic capabilities at the heart of our products: systems where LLMs reason, use tools, and work alongside conventional software and people. You’ll own delivery from early design through to production, working closely with our Director of Engineering, Lead Architect and Product team to turn the overall technical direction into well-built, reliable systems. You’ll set the pace and standards for your squad, unblock and grow the engineers around you, and make sure projects land. This is a hands-on leadership role: you’ll still write code and build core components yourself. We’re hiring two Lead Engineers who work as peers, one focused on Agent Systems and one on our AI Platform & Runtime. The roles share a common core of skills, and we expect our leads to understand each other’s domain well enough to step into each other’s work when needed. What you’ll do Lead and hire a squad of engineers to design, build, and deploy production-grade agentic systems powered by large language models. Design and build agentic workflows, including orchestration, tool use and function calling, multi-step reasoning, and context and memory management. Own project delivery end to end, including planning, breaking down work, managing scope and risk, and getting things shipped. Decide where agents should act autonomously, where deterministic logic is safer, and where a human should be in the loop. Own the quality of agent behaviour by building in evaluation, test datasets, tracing, and failure analysis, so improvements are evidence-based. Make sure your squad’s systems produce reliable, well-structured outputs that the wider platform can depend on. Work closely with our Lead Architect and the Platform lead, contributing to design discussions and making sure your squad’s work aligns with the wider architecture. Mentor and develop engineers through pairing, design reviews, and code reviews, and raise the bar within your squad. Help grow the team, including hiring, interviewing, and onboarding. Act as the main point of contact for your squad’s work with product and non-technical stakeholders, turning requirements into clear plans and communicating progress, trade-offs, and risks. Champion our AI-first engineering culture, including how the team uses AI-assisted development tools, reviews code, and shares best practice. What you’ll bring Extensive software engineering experience, typically 7+ years, with strong production experience in Python and/or TypeScript and other full stack technologies. Experience leading a team or squad, or leading projects from inception to production. Hands-on experience shipping LLM-based systems to production, beyond prototypes. Deep practical experience with agentic patterns, such as tool use and function calling, orchestration, multi-step reasoning, and structured outputs. A solid understanding of retrieval-augmented generation, context engineering, and the trade-offs between prompting, retrieval, and fine-tuning. Experience building evaluation approaches for LLM systems, such as test datasets, regression evals, or tracing and observability. A disciplined, evidence-driven approach to improving AI system quality. Strong delivery skills: you can plan work, manage priorities, and keep a team moving in the face of ambiguity. Experience mentoring engineers and helping them grow. A collaborative approach to working with directors, architects, product managers, and other leads. Clear communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues. Daily, fluent use of AI-assisted development tools in your own engineering work. Nice to have Experience with multiple model providers, including routing, cost, and latency optimisation. Experience with workflow engines, schema-driven systems, or domain-specific languages. Experience with agent frameworks and protocols for tool and context integration. Awareness of AI security, safety, and governance considerations, such as prompt injection and guardrails. Experience leading a squad in an agile or early-stage environment. Why join Ownership: You’ll lead a squad and own the delivery of real products, from first design to production. Leadership with impact: You’ll shape how your squad works and help grow the engineers in it. Challenging work: You’ll solve hard applied AI problems with real-world outcomes. AI-first culture: We use AI in what we build and in how we build it. Direct access: You’ll work closely with leadership in a team with minimal process. Benefits Salary and equity: A competitive base salary plus a meaningful equity package, so you share directly in our success. Pension: Up to 8% employer-matched pension contribution to help you build for your future. Healthcare: Comprehensive health insurance contribution for peace of mind. Learning & Development: A dedicated annual budget for your professional growth, courses, and certifications. Home Office Allowance: A one-off budget to help you build an ergonomic and comfortable remote workspace. Bike to Work Scheme: A tax-efficient cycle-to-work scheme to support greener, healthier commutes. Interested? Apply or message me directly. We’d especially like to hear about an LLM or agent-based project you’ve led into production, how you got your team there, and what you learned along the way.
