Mechanical Design Engineer

OpTalent is partnering with an established manufacturer in Cambridge to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer for its team.This role offers the opportunity to lead product development from concept through production, with hands-on involvement in mechanical design, structural analysis, prototyping, testing and validation.Key ResponsibilitiesLead product development projects from concept and detailed design through prototyping, testing, validation and production.Develop mechanical and electromechanical designs using SolidWorks, including 3D models, drawings and engineering documentation.Apply engineering principles and FEA to assess structural integrity, performance and safety.Evaluate design requirements and size critical components, considering factors such as stress, torque and performance.Develop prototype test plans, resolve design issues and support product validation.Apply design for manufacturability and assembly, FMEA, tolerance stack-up analysis and BOM development.Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve technical challenges, support product launches and improve existing designs.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Robotics Engineering, or a related discipline.Active Ontario P.Eng. designation, or eligibility to obtain it within a short timeframe.4+ years of mechanical or electromechanical product design and development experience.Demonstrated experience leading or making a significant technical contribution to a commercial product development project, ideally from design through testing, validation and production.Strong SolidWorks capability and sound mechanical and structural design fundamentals, including practical FEA experience.Knowledge of design for manufacturability, FMEA, tolerance stack-ups, BOMs and engineering documentation.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take ownership of technical deliverables and work across teams.Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive base salary + Profit-sharing program.Employee benefits.RRSP matching up to 2.5% after one year.On-site gym and company social events.Interested in the opportunity?
