Commissioning Lead – Energy Storage Systems

Key ResponsibilitiesCommissioning Management: Lead and coordinate on-site commissioning activities for utility-scale battery energy storage projects, from pre-commissioning through testing, start-up, and final handover.System Integration: Coordinate the commissioning and integration of battery systems, PCS/inverters, BMS, EMS, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, SCADA, and other relevant equipment.Testing & Verification: Develop and execute commissioning plans, procedures, test protocols, and checklists; verify system performance against technical specifications and contractual requirements.Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical issues during installation, energization, testing, and start-up, working closely with engineering teams and equipment suppliers.Grid Connection: Coordinate electrical testing, protection system verification, grid synchronization, and performance testing in collaboration with the utility, EPC contractor, and relevant stakeholders.Site Coordination: Manage daily commissioning activities and coordinate with construction, electrical, controls, safety, and quality teams to ensure smooth project execution.Safety & Quality: Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, electrical safety procedures, quality standards, and project-specific commissioning protocols.Progress Reporting: Track commissioning progress, identify critical issues and schedule risks, maintain technical documentation, and provide regular updates to project management.Handover & Training: Prepare commissioning reports, test records, punch lists, and handover documentation; support client training and final project acceptance.Qualifications & RequirementsBachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Automation, or a related discipline.At least 5 years of experience in electrical commissioning, power systems, renewable energy, or energy storage projects.Proven experience in the on-site commissioning and start-up of utility-scale BESS projects is highly preferred.Good understanding of BESS architecture and the integration of battery systems, PCS, BMS, EMS, SCADA, protection systems, and grid connection equipment.Hands-on experience in electrical testing, system integration, fault diagnosis, commissioning procedures, and technical documentation.Familiarity with grid connection requirements, electrical safety standards, and commissioning practices for utility-scale power projects.Experience coordinating EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, engineering teams, clients, and utility representatives.Strong problem-solving, site leadership, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills.Proficiency in English is required. Arabic is an advantage.Willingness to work on project sites across the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, as required.
