Contract Director

Commercial & Contracts DirectorWe are seeking an experienced Commercial & Contracts Director to head up the Commercial and Contracts Department for an established construction business. This is a senior leadership position offering the opportunity to oversee commercial performance across multiple projects, manage complex contractual matters and play a key role in protecting the company's commercial interests.The ideal candidate will bring extensive construction industry experience, strong departmental leadership capabilities and, most importantly, significant hands-on experience in construction arbitration, claims, commercial and complex dispute resolution.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the Commercial and Contracts Department, overseeing commercial and contractual matters across the company's project portfolio.Take ownership of complex construction disputes, with particular responsibility for arbitration proceedings, contractual correspondence and dispute resolution strategies.Lead the preparation, assessment, negotiation and defence of contractual claims.Oversee contract administration, ensuring contractual obligations, risks and commercial exposures are effectively managed.Monitor project costs, financial performance, profitability and commercial outcomes.Direct tendering and estimation activities, including bid preparation, pricing, tender evaluation and commercial negotiations.Provide senior-level commercial guidance to project teams and company leadership.Develop and maintain robust commercial processes, contractual controls and risk management practices.RequirementsDegree in Quantity Surveying, Construction or similarChartership preferredExtensive experience in the construction industry, particularly across commercial buildings and major building developments.A proven track record in senior commercial and contracts management, ideally with experience leading a department or function.Substantial practical experience in construction arbitrationStrong expertise in construction claims, contractual disputes, negotiations and dispute resolution.A solid technical foundation in quantity surveying, cost control and project commercial management.In-depth knowledge of construction contracts, contract administration, tendering and commercial risk management.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage complex contractual correspondence and negotiations confidently.This is an opportunity for a commercially astute construction professional to step into a key leadership role, combining departmental responsibility with hands-on involvement in some of the most challenging contractual and commercial matters within the business.
