SCR is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities. We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.Description & ScopeEnhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) are a promising source of sustainable, low-carbon energy, but fluid losses during reservoir circulation remain a significant challenge. Data from circulation tests at the Utah FORGE and other projects provide a unique opportunity to investigate how geothermal reservoirs respond under different operating conditions. In this internship, you will combine real-world data with advanced reservoir simulation to improve understanding of water loss mechanisms in EGS reservoirs. Using industry-leading reservoir modelling software (SLB INTERSECT), you will history match circulation test data, evaluate model performance, and investigate how operational parameters influence fluid recovery and reservoir behaviour. The project offers hands-on experience at the intersection of geothermal energy, subsurface engineering, data science, and numerical modelling. The outcomes will contribute directly to ongoing research aimed at improving future geothermal developments.Responsibilities Build, calibrate, and validate reservoir simulation models. Compare observed field performance with simulation predictions and assess model accuracy. Perform sensitivity studies to identify key controls on fluid losses. Deliver a final technical report and presentation summarizing methodology, findings, and recommendations.Requirements Studying a Bachelors or Masters in Petroleum Engineering, Geosciences, Engineering, physics, applied mathematics or a related subject Strong interest in renewable energy, geothermal systems, or subsurface engineering. Basic understanding of fluid flow, heat transfer, or reservoir processes. Ability to work independently while effectively communicating technical results. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Enthusiasm for learning numerical simulation and reservoir modelling techniques. Experience with reservoir engineering, hydrogeology, petroleum engineering, or geothermal systems. (Desirable) Familiarity with numerical simulation software (INTERSECT, Eclipse, CMG, TOUGH2, OpenGeoSys, COMSOL, or similar). (Desirable) Programming experience in Python for data analysis and visualization. (Desirable)SLB is an equal employment opportunity employer.
