Mechanical Engineer – Bioprocess Scale-UpWe need a mechanical engineer who can take a novel fermentation system from sketch to steel. We’re scaling a proprietary bioprocess from pilot to commercial plant, and the systems we need don’t come off the shelf. You’ll own the design, the drawings, the procurement, and the EPC supervision that turns it all into operating plants. If you like watching your CAD become something you can walk through on a plant floor, this is your job.What you’ll ownDesign. End-to-end mechanical design of custom fermentation and cultivation systems, including non-standard vessel geometries, media preparation, and downstream handling equipment. 3D models, GA drawings, support structures, pipe racks, skid layouts. Hygienic design for a personal-care-grade product. FEA on the parts that matter. Digital twins to de-risk scale-up.Execution. Own mechanical from FEED through commissioning. Supervise EPC contractors. Run FATs and SATs. Manage the civil-mechanical interface. Hit 95%+ uptime post-handover.Procurement. Lead requirement generation. PRs, techno-commercial bid evaluations, Approved Vendor List, delivery dashboards.Quality & safety. Indian Standards and ISO compliance. ITPs, WPS, MTCs. HAZOP, SOPs, preventive maintenance schedules. Cleanability and contamination control built into the design (CIP/SIP, drainability, surface finish).Innovation. Work with biology and process teams to translate culture requirements (aeration, temperature, sterility, surface area, harvest) into mechanical constraints. Joint design work with partners. Help leadership document novel IP.Engineering skills we needStrong:Autodesk Inventor or Fusion for 3D modeling, assemblies, drawingsAutoCAD for 2D drafting, P&IDs, GA drawingsPiping design, stress analysis concepts, equipment layoutHygienic/sanitary design in SS 304/316L (ASME BPE or equivalent)EPC contractor supervision, hands-on project executionBOQ and BOM generationFEA on support structures and pressure componentsHAZOP and risk-based engineeringNice to have:Fermentation vessels, bioreactors, or food/pharma process equipmentSolids handling: harvesting, washing, size reduction, dewateringSterile process design: CIP/SIP, steam systems, aseptic transfersPipe stress analysis software and CFD toolsSCADA/PLC from the mechanical interface sideIoT-based predictive maintenance or condition monitoringPMP or formal project engineering credentialWho you are5–8 years in mechanical design and project executionB.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from a strong school. M.Tech is a plusPersonally executed at least one plant or skid from drawing to commissioning.
