Senior Full Stack Engineer ( Ruby on Rails & React )

We are looking for an experienced Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our engineering team and help build and scale a next-generation educational technology platform.The ideal candidate will have strong experience in frontend and backend development, particularly with React, relational databases, and backend technologies such as Ruby on Rails or Node.js.You will work closely with the CTO, taking ownership of end-to-end feature development, contributing to technical decisions, and transforming high-level business requirements into scalable technical solutions.We are looking for someone proactive, independent, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where problem-solving and ownership are essential.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, test, and maintain full-stack web applications using React, Ruby on Rails, and PostgreSQL.Build and implement frontend and backend functionalities from end to end.Maintain and optimize existing applications, ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability.Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve bugs and production issues.Translate business and product requirements into technical specifications and implementation plans.Take ownership of features throughout the entire development lifecycle, from planning to deployment.Identify technical risks, dependencies, edge cases, and potential solutions.Collaborate directly with the CTO and cross-functional team members.Communicate progress, timelines, blockers, and project updates proactively.Continuously improve code quality, development practices, and technical solutions.Job Requirements4+ years of professional software development experience.2+ years of experience working with React.2+ years of experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.2+ years of backend development experience using Ruby, Node.js, or similar technologies.Strong understanding of full-stack development and web application architecture.Experience building, maintaining, and troubleshooting production applications.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned projects.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements.Preferred QualificationsHands-on experience with Ruby on Rails.Strong PostgreSQL experience.Experience working across frontend and backend systems.Experience developing scalable production web applications.Previous experience in the Education or EdTech industry.Nice to HaveExperience integrating AI or LLM-powered functionalities into web applications.Familiarity with education data privacy regulations, particularly FERPA.Experience working within small or fast-growing engineering teams.Experience building products for schools, educators, or students.
