User Interface Architect
JJA.CO · Seattle, WA
Tailor my CV for this job — freeOur customers are starting to work with AI agents as well as dashboards. They give an agent a goal, watch it work, step in when it needs a decision, and expect the interface to keep up. We are looking for a front-end architect to define how that works across the platform. You will set the architecture for interfaces that are generated and adapted at runtime, and for the experience where customers start and manage work with agents. Reporting and dashboards remain part of the product, and your work will sit alongside them and increasingly connect to them. You will report to the VP of Engineering, who owns UX and the primary customer interface for our agents, and you will be the senior technical voice on how that interface is built. What you will doDefine the front-end architecture for agent-driven experiences: conversational and mixed-mode UIs, generated components, and interfaces that change based on context, intent, and what the agent is doing.Design the interaction patterns for working with agents, including streaming output, long-running tasks, progress and status, approvals and handoffs, undo and recovery, and showing the reasoning and sources behind an action.Own the contract between agents and the UI. This covers how agents describe the components they want to render, how those components are validated, and how the UI sends user actions back to the agent.Set the standards for trust and control in the interface, so users can see what an agent did, correct it, and decide how much autonomy it gets.Extend our design system and component platform so it supports both hand-built and agent-composed interfaces, with accessibility, performance, security, and localization built in.Partner with product, design, and AI engineering leads in the Embed, Visualize, and Act domains to turn shared patterns into platform capabilities teams can reuse.Set up evaluation for generated UI, including automated checks for quality, accessibility, and safety, and ways to measure whether users complete tasks with an agent.Review designs and code across teams, mentor senior engineers, and write the architecture decisions that other teams will follow.Use AI-assisted development tools in your own work and help teams adopt them with good engineering practice. What you bringDeep experience architecting large-scale web applications, with strong command of TypeScript, React, and modern front-end build and delivery.Hands-on experience shipping features built on LLMs in production, such as chat or copilot interfaces, streaming responses, tool calling, or generated UI.A working understanding of agent concepts: tool use, planning, memory, multi-step workflows, and the failure modes of each, and how those show up in the interface.Experience designing component systems and the APIs between front-end platforms and the services behind them.Solid grounding in accessibility, performance, security (including handling untrusted model output), and internationalization.Hands-on experience with agent-to-UI protocols and generative UI frameworks, such as AG-UI, A2UI, MCP-UI, CopilotKit, or the Vercel AI SDK. Open-source contributions to these or similar projects are a strong plus.Experience with data-heavy products, such as analytics, reporting, or experience management. Background in interaction design, including close work with design teams on new interface patterns.Experience with evaluation methods for non-deterministic systems.A track record of setting technical direction across several teams without owning all of them.Clear writing and a habit of working through trade-offs in the open.
