Scientist - Aviner/Andino labs
University of California, San Francisco · San Francisco Bay Area
Tailor my CV for this job — freeCan we make live vaccines safer by controlling how a virus is translated in specific cell types? We’re hiring a full-time Scientist to lead an experimental program at the intersection of RNA biology, high-throughput functional genomics, and molecular virology. The project: A fully funded 2-year effort focused on rational viral genome engineering and cell type-specific translational control to develop live-attenuated vaccines.
- Design, construction, and execution of massively parallel reporter assays (MPRAs) to measure cell type-specific translation dynamics
- End-to-end wet lab execution: library construction, in vitro RNA synthesis, delivery into human cell cultures, and NGS quantification
- Translating high-throughput screen outputs directly into targeted viral attenuation candidatesWho you are:
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or related field
- Deep technical command of RNA workflows from data collection to analysis
- Independent problem solver: you’ve taken a messy experimental problem from idea to clean data without someone telling you how
- Preferred but not required: experience with high-throughput reporter or CRISPR screens, molecular virology, neuronal culturesTo apply:Email your CV and a brief summary of your relevant experience to ranen.aviner@ucsf.edu with the subject line "Scientist Application: Viral Attenuation".Optional: To help us evaluate your fit, feel free to include a short note describing a specific technical hurdle or unexpected failure at the bench and step-by-step logic you applied to resolve it.
