Job Title: Frontend Architect / Technical Lead – Digital Experiences & AILocation: Flexible / Remote, subject to business requirements Experience: Typically 8–12+ years in software engineering, with substantial hands-on frontend architecture and delivery experience Engagement: Full-time or contract, depending on availability and budgetRole OverviewWe are seeking a hands-on Frontend Architect / Technical Lead to lead the technical design, development and continuous improvement of a portfolio of modern, content-driven digital experiences across various digital platforms.The successful candidate will work closely with business and engineering leadership to translate product requirements into scalable, reusable and maintainable frontend solutions.

The role combines architecture, hands-on coding, API integration, technical problem-solving and team leadership.The candidate must be comfortable taking ownership of an existing Sanity-based platform with limited vendor transition support, establishing independent development and deployment capabilities, and delivering business outcomes in a fast-moving environment.This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not an architecture-only position.Key Responsibilities1. Frontend Architecture and EngineeringDesign and evolve frontend architecture using React, Next.js, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS.Establish reusable components, design patterns, application structures and shared frontend capabilities across multiple brands.Balance common architecture with channel-specific branding, content presentation and business requirements.Collaborate with engineering leadership and business stakeholders on architectural decisions rather than imposing solutions unilaterally.Ensure responsive design, accessibility, SEO, performance, maintainability and security are incorporated into implementation.2. Sanity CMS and Digital ExperienceTake technical ownership of the existing Sanity-based content platform.Design and improve Sanity schemas, content models, references, reusable blocks and publishing workflows.Enable geolocation-aware content and functionality based on visitor location and applicable business rules.Support consolidation of existing Journey digital properties into a unified website.Establish practical integration patterns between Sanity and React/Next.js applications.3. API and Travel Technology IntegrationsDesign frontend integration patterns for white-label booking solutions.Evaluate and implement the frontend for the AI itinerary builder, subject to the agreed build and ownership model.Design reusable booking widgets and integration interfaces that minimise dependency on individual suppliers.Implement secure API communication, error handling, retries, loading states and appropriate monitoring.Collaborate with backend, supplier and external technology teams to resolve integration issues.4. AI-Assisted DevelopmentUse AI coding assistants and development tools to accelerate implementation, debugging, code reviews, documentation and test creation.Apply sound engineering judgement to AI-generated code, including security, correctness, performance and maintainability reviews.Identify opportunities to use AI for rapid prototyping and delivery without compromising production quality.5. Engineering Ownership and DeliveryEstablish company-controlled source-code repositories, build pipelines and deployment processes.Lead the technical takeover of the existing platform with minimal vendor assistance.Ensure the application can be independently built, deployed, tested and maintained.Establish suitable development and test environments and practical release controls.Provide technical guidance and mentoring to senior developers.Identify risks early, communicate trade-offs and deliver working increments against agreed milestones.Required Technical SkillsStrong hands-on expertise in React, Next.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML and CSS.Production experience with Sanity CMS, including schemas, GROQ queries, content modelling and frontend integration.Strong experience designing frontend architecture for content-driven websites and multi-brand digital platforms.Practical experience integrating REST APIs and third-party SaaS platforms.Experience with responsive UI engineering, SEO, accessibility, web performance and browser compatibility.Experience with Git, CI/CD, environment management, automated builds and production deployments.Understanding of authentication, authorisation, secure frontend practices and API security.Practical testing experience using suitable unit, integration and end-to-end testing tools.Demonstrated ability to use AI-assisted software development tools effectively.Preferred QualificationsExperience with Tailwind CSS and reusable design systems.Experience with geolocation, personalisation, dynamic content and location-specific experiences.Experience integrating booking engines, travel APIs, payments or dynamic packaging solutions.Experience with AI itinerary builders, LLM-powered interfaces or agent-based applications.Experience with analytics-driven optimisation and SEO for content-heavy websites.Experience taking over applications from external development vendors.Working Style and Leadership ExpectationsHands-on, pragmatic and comfortable working with ambiguity.Collaborative, receptive to feedback and aligned with shared architectural governance.Able to ask the right questions, challenge assumptions constructively and explain technical trade-offs.Comfortable operating in a lean team with multiple priorities and limited budgets.Focused on delivering usable functionality quickly, then iterating based on testing and feedback.Accountable for outcomes, not merely technical recommendations.
