Data Governance Lead

OverviewProfectus is seeking an experienced Data Governance Lead to support enterprise data governance within an Australian Government agency. You will lead the development and implementation of data governance policies, standards, controls and guidance, with a focus on data used in analytics, automated decision-making, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. The work covers data stewardship and accountability, data quality and classification, data lifecycle management, and data protection, risk and assurance.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the development, implementation and improvement of enterprise data governance policies, standards, principles and guidanceDevelop governance arrangements for the use of data in artificial intelligence, analytics, automated decision-making and emerging technologiesProvide data governance advice to senior leaders, governance bodies and the data community on complex data issuesDevelop practical governance controls, assessment tools, templates and guidance to support consistent, proportionate decision-makingTranslate legislation, policy and organisational requirements into workable governance arrangementsPrepare briefs, reports, governance papers and presentations for senior leaders and governance bodiesLead defined data governance projects and work programs, managing competing priorities with a high degree of independenceBuild stakeholder relationships across business, program, operational and technology areas to lift data literacy and governance maturityIdentify, monitor and report on data risks, issues and benefitsManage and resolve escalated data governance issuesMonitor developments in data governance and artificial intelligence and advise on their implications for the agencyRequired ExperienceExtensive experience in data governance, information governance or a related discipline, at a lead or EL1 equivalent levelExperience developing, implementing or improving data governance policies, standards, controls or operating arrangementsStrong working knowledge of data stewardship, data quality management, data classification, data lifecycle management, data protection and data risk and assuranceKnowledge of governance requirements for analytics, automated decision-making and artificial intelligenceExperience translating legislation, policy or standards into practical governance arrangementsExperience lifting data governance maturity and embedding lasting organisational changeExperience preparing executive briefs, governance papers, policies and guidance materialsStrong stakeholder management skills, including advising senior leaders on complex or ambiguous issuesDesirable ExperienceTertiary qualifications in data, information management or information systemsProfessional certification or formal training in data governance, data management, privacy, risk assurance or artificial intelligence governanceExperience with data sharing legislation and data use and re-use requirementsExperience with metadata standards and data collection methods, including writing scripts or code to collect dataPrevious experience in Australian Government data governance rolesSecurity Clearance RequirementsMust be an Australian CitizenMust have the ability to obtain an AGSVA Baseline Security ClearanceCurrent AGSVA Baseline Security Clearance (or higher) preferredWorking ArrangementsHybrid, following an initial onsite periodBrisbane OR CanberraWhy ProfectusProfectus partners with Australian Government agencies to deliver trusted ICT capability across complex delivery programs.
