Tailor my CV for this job — freeRole SummaryWe are hiring a Linux Systems Engineer (L2/L3) to support the VDI platform layer in a distributed environment spanning ~20 hypervisors. The customer Linux team maintains the hypervisors (monitoring and vulnerability management). The Service Provider focuses on the VDI layer, including user issue resolution, Linux OS troubleshooting, patching/hardening support, automation/config management, scientific runtime enablement (limited scope), and container/VDI operational support.VDI core technologies include:SLURM + AWS DCVDocker + Kasm WorkspacesKey ResponsibilitiesA) Integrated Advanced Support (L2/L3) – Linux Systems (Core)Resolve incidents and service requests from researchers, faculty, and students.Perform OS troubleshooting including: boot/kernel/service failures package management and dependency failures OS upgrades and migrations Drive vulnerability management, OS patching, and OS hardening in alignment with security requirements. Deliver performance tuning for CPU/memory/disk and GPU-related tuning as applicable.Support and maintain configuration management, including: ongoing support and updates to Ansible and Puppet playbooks Administer and manage OS-level agents for visibility and compliance, including tooling such as: Nessus, Automox, Puppet, and related systems/agents Contribute to Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using diagnostics and log analysis. Support incident prevention via automation and lifecycle improvements.B) Scientific Environment (Limited Scope) Configure environment modules (e.g., Lmod/Modules) and ensure correct runtime behavior. Perform dependency resolution and enablement of application runtime environments. Ensure users can load and run scientific toolchains reliably.C) VDI Platform Layer Support Troubleshoot session access and performance issues. Support scheduling and workload management interactions at the VDI layer. Perform container platform operations at the VDI layer. Handle multi-component troubleshooting for cases like: VDI + scheduler + containers (within scope) Coordinate with relevant teams when issues cross into hypervisor-level responsibilities.D) Engineering / Automation Functions Provide automation-first operational practices using: advanced scripting (bash, Python) Ansible and Puppet (automation/config management) Use IaC and CI/CD practices (including GitLab CI/CD) where applicable. Maintain infrastructure lifecycle workflows using automation rather than manual steps.Mandatory Requirements (Must-Have)Linux administration expertise (mandatory): Ubuntu LTS Rocky Linux NVIDIA GPU-enabled compute management experience (required).
